Purdue President Daniels on the passing of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright
Purdue University President Mitch Daniels on Wednesday (March 23) issued the following statement on the death of Madeleine Albright, the U.S. secretary of state from 1997 to 2001. Albright died on Wednesday.
Daniels said:
“One of the great privileges of my years at Purdue was the chance to host Madeleine Albright for a day and evening on our campus. This magnificent public servant left SRO crowds better informed and wishing for more.
“She brought to us something more.
“She reminded us, as the president quoted her today, that the United States is “the indispensable nation,” as those cherishing freedom and human dignity have always known. Now, when like Secretary Albright, others are fleeing tyranny and reminding Americans what true oppression looks like, we can honor her memory by supporting freedom’s brave friends in the Ukraine and be welcoming, as Purdue intends to do, to all those who would like to bring their talents and dreams to this land of freedom and opportunity.”
Note: Secretary Albright visited Purdue in October 2013.
